The pollen is covering everything and the weather is starting to consistently warm up. This only means one thing to those of us who spend time on the water and love boating, our prime time season for fun is here in the Low Country. Hilton Head Island and her surrounding areas like Daufuskie Island offer an almost unlimited amount of time and adventure on the water.
Before you make your first run of the season, make sure all of your cockpit drains are free and clear of obstructions like leaves and dirt so that they can quickly allow the water to drain overboard. Also, make sure all of your bilge pumps are also operational including the units that are operated by a float switch. It is much easier to replace these components at the dock, or on the trailer, than when you may need it out on the water. Also, now is a great time to get your annual service performed on the engines to facilitate a more problem free boating season. For those boat owners who have diesel engines, remember to change your primary fuel filters as debris on the bottom of the tank will be stirred up and could begin to clog your filters reducing engine performance after a few runs.
Those are just a few friendly reminders from local Marine Surveyor. Captain Mike is available for your pre-purchase, insurance valuation, and damage claim marine surveys in the Hilton Head Island, South Carolina area. Please give us a call anytime at 843-422-1221 to schedule your survey.
